Missed|Connections

Statement

Missed|Connections is a physical visualization of the way I see the missed connections section of Craigslist. The temoporality and linearity of the way it lists posts results in newer posts getting all the 'glory' while older posts get relegated to secondary pages. As a result, connections that were once 'missed', get missed again.

Process

I looked at the missed connections sections from 4 different cities (Chicago, IL, Bloomington, IN, Indianapolis, IN and New York, NY). The images associated with the posts were printed into different sizes and pasted onto cardstock. To depict the decaying of older posts, I burnt the smaller posts. The weblike structure depicts the connectedness of these different posts, the depth visualizes how older posts get pushed into the periphery of the browser's awareness.

The resulting installation was photographed in a studio.
